Julian Rachlin is one of the most exciting and respected violinists of our time. Born in Lithuania, Julian immigrated to Vienna in 1978, before studying violin with Boris Kuschnir and Pinchas Zukerman at the Vienna Conservatory. After winning the "Young Musician of the Year" Award at the Eurovision Competition in 1988, he became the youngest soloist ever to play with the Vienna Philharmonic. Since September 1999, he has worked in the violin department of the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna. Julian is also an accomplished viola player, while his recordings have been met with great acclaim.
Rachlin is Principal Guest Conductor of the Royal Northern Sinfonia and the Turku Philharmonic Julian. He also leads the Julian Rachlin & Friends Festival in Palma de Mallorca. As a conductor, he regularly tours Europe with the English Chamber Orchestra and has conducted several other leading orchestras in Europe.
Julian is a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and is committed to educational outreach and charity work.
