Born in the Ukrainian region of Transcarpathia, István Bundovics began his voice studies with István Márton in the city of Ungvár (Uzshorod). He earned his university degree in voice at the Debrecen branch of the Liszt Academy in 1997, under the guidance of Adrienn Szterszky and Éva Mohos Nagy. Following his studies at the academy, he sang the role of Don Ottavio in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, followed by that of Lensky in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, at the Csokonai Theatre of Debrecen. Since then, he has been performing continuously in choirs and as a soloist, joining the Hungarian National Choir in 1998. He has appeared in two Hungarian premières: as Ovando in Verdi’s Alzira and as the tenor soloist in Alfejev’s Saint Matthew Passion. In addition, he has participated in oratorios, song recitals and operetta concerts both in Hungary and abroad, and made numerous audio and television recordings with the Hungarian National Choir and the Bayreuth Festival Chorus.
