György Oravecz was born in Budapest in 1963 and began to play the piano at the age of eight. He graduated from the Franz Liszt Music Academy, where his teachers were István Lantos and Zoltán Kocsis. In 1985, he won the special Cziffra Foundation Prize at the Hungarian Radio Piano Competition. After this, he became known primarily as a Liszt specialist. He has performed in Austria, Brazil, France, Croatia, German, Italy, Canada and the United States. Zoltán Kocsis has talked about Oravecz as follows: "He is a true podium artist with great prospects, who on many occasions given clear proof of his virtuosic technical skill, his stylistic security and last but not least, the undoubted originality of his musical personality."
