Boris Berezovsky, a returning guest of the National Philharmonic Orchestra, is a representative of the long-established Russian piano school, and is one of the most renowned and authentic interpreters of Russian piano music. He will be playing solo piano in a concerto by Aram Khachaturian (best known today for his Sabre Dance). Composed in an unusual key, the concerto made sensation in Western Europe in 1936.

 
Brimming with powerful rhythms and special melodies, the concerto was recorded in 2006 by Boris Berezovsky, a great advocate of Russian music, earning accolades from both the profession and the audiences. Also in the programme is a dazzling prelude to a comic opera, The Silent Woman written by Richard Strauss (around the same time as the concerto) to a libretto by Stefan Zweig. The second half of the concert will feature a classic masterpiece, Thaikovsky’sSymphony No.4 with magnificent melodies and dramatic force.

Russian conductor, Dmitri Liss is compared by some to Leonard Bernstein; he is considered among the world’s finest interpreters of Tchaikovsky and of contemporary music, and has a special gift for working with young people.
It is not the first time that the Artistic Director/Chief Conductor of the Ural Philharmonic Orchestra is staged together with Boris Berezosky, thus a special authentic music experience can be expected.
