Singing is nothing other than my own path of self-recognition. It is a path to authenticity, from both a human and professional perspective. It is a path that still holds much to discover for the rest of my life.
I was born in Szekszárd. That is where I attended school, met my husband and got married, and where my children were born. The town is not just famous for its world-renowned wines, but also for the fact that Franz Liszt visited it four times. The music school that was named after him there was the key institution of my childhood and a few decades later also became my place of employment, and is characterised by a scintillating musical life.
I inherited my musical talent from my paternal grandmother, who had a marvellous singing voice. In the 1980s, she sang in the choir of the town of Bonyhád’s Lutheran congregation. Her nobly resounding voice is preserved on an old tape recording. It was from her that I learned how to pray and sing. Her wisdom and down-to-earth nature remain a model for me to follow to this day.
Over the course of my career and even today, I have had the opportunity to learn from great teachers and mentors. I consider my childhood experiences to be of pivotal significance, and I strive to contribute as best I can to today’s children in the Hungarian State Opera Children’s Chorus. I pursued my high school studies in Pécs, focusing on solfège/choral conducting and solo voice. At Győr’s College of Music, I earned my degree in music school voice pedagogy and chamber singing under the guidance of my mentor, the Liszt Award-winning Artist of Excellence Judit Németh. I earned my degree in voice in 2002 after training at the Liszt Academy’s Szeged branch under Professor Mária Temesi. It is with gratitude and thanks that I remember piano accompanist József Gábor, who helped me a great deal with my career both as a man and as a teacher. I also owe thanks to Ilona Adorján – Aunt Ilonka – who stood by me in my most difficult moments. Alongside my pedagogical work, I also studied music therapy.
My work at the Hungarian National Choir provides an opportunity to explore, along with the marvel of chamber singing, my bent toward performing as a soloist. My vocation rests on balanced human relationships and mutual respect and acceptance.
